Chances are you've heard more about side hustles lately. Maybe you've done a little research about the different ways you can earn some extra cash on top of your 9-5. Having more than one source of income is a good thing. So if you've been thinking about getting a side hustle, but aren't sure where to start, here are some key elements to select the right side hustle for you.
Try to find a side hustle you're passionate about. You might be passionate about several things. Whether it's cooking, music, fashion, jewelry, reading, dancing, painting, teaching, traveling, or anything else in the world-- go ahead and write them all down.
More often than not, there's a way to fulfill your passion while getting paid and helping others at the same time. Love traveling? Start a blog and share your experiences with your readers. Build an audience of loyalists and companies will be eager to advertise on your site. Love to read? Offer your services as a proofreader. There are several freelance websites to choose from. Companies and bloggers are willing to pay for a special set of eyes to keep their content clean.
What are you good at? You can usually find a good side hustle related to something you already excel at. You don't have to start from scratch or learn something new (although you certainly could) to start a side hustle. There's a good chance there are tons of people hoping to work in the field you already work in-- and reach the level you're already at.
Become a tutor. Teach, train, and encourage people hoping to learn from experts with experience-- like you. Ambitious people are usually willing to pay for specialized training and inspiration, in an individual or small group setting.
Side hustles tied to passion and skill can sometimes involve lengthy time commitments before you start earning income. But if your side hustle involves your passion or something you're skilled at, it might be easier to work for free for a little while. However, if you're the kind of person who wants a profitable side hustle immediately, there's a long list of side hustles you can start right now-- and start getting paid for right now.
By the way, I like the on-demand side hustle. My wife and I side hustle with Amazon Flex. We deliver packages in our personal vehicles for three hours at a time and we get paid between $18-26/hr. to do it. In fact, we did a shift together today. We got paid $72 for a three hour shift, that we finished in an hour and 40 minutes.
You're not supposed to be miserable when you side hustle. It's not supposed to be a job you hate going to. It's something you should be passionate about, skilled at, or do on your schedule-- not someone else's. So be sure to weigh the importance of these three factors when it comes to selecting the right side hustle for you.
